Some of you have been asking about Youth 2011—the national gathering of youth within the United Methodist Church that convenes once every four years. Although HFUMC is not solely sponsoring this event as an addition to our summer trip lineup, we are partnering with the youth group from Connell UMC to offer interested youth a chance to attend this conference.

The Youth 2011 conference will bring together top United Methodist leaders as well as inspiring speakers, bands and talent with thousands of youth from all around the nation. This year, Youth 2011 will be hosted at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN July 13-17th. The trip cost is $400/ea (which includes event registration, lodging, meals, and transportation), and is open to all current 7-12 graders. Interested youth should submit their registration form along with their $400 payment (checks payable to Connell UMC) to the mailbox of Joshua Strader in the main church office no later than Monday, March 14th.

Registrations are now being accepted for the Jr. High summer missions trip with Youthworks to Chattanooga, July 3-8th. All youth currently in 7-8th grade are eligible to register, but space is limited! Registrations will be secured on a first-come first-serve basis until either the roster is full or the registration deadline–Wednesday, February 16th. The trip cost is $275 and registrations should be submitted to the mailbox of Joshua Strader in the main church office along with a $50 non-refundable deposit. 2011 Jr High Missions Trip Info and Registration

Registrations are now being accepted for the Sr. High ASP summer missions trip, June 12-18th. All youth currently in grades 9-12 who are at least 14 years of age are eligible to participate. The trip cost is $500 and space is limited! Registrations will be secured on a first-come first-serve basis until either the roster is full or the registration deadline–Sunday, January 30th. Warmth in Winter Registration Deadline this Sunday 12/19: A reminder that all Warmth in Winter registration forms are due by this Sunday, December 19th to the mailbox of Joshua Strader in the main office along with a $50 non-refundable deposit. Registration forms can be picked up any time In the Youth Lounge or downloaded from our youth website, www.hfumcyouth.com. The total cost of the event is $150 for youth (final balance due Jan 9th), and scholarship information and inquiries may be made to joshua.strader@hfumc.org. Please don’t miss the deadline—this is an awesome event for youth!

UMYF Christmas Party this Sunday! (Grades 7-12)
All youth (grades 7-12) and regular volunteers are cordially invited to join us for the All Youth Christmas party from 5-7pm this Sunday, December 19th in the youth lounge. Join us for festive food, activities, a special message, and some seriously ridiculous fun! Grab a friend (or ten!) and plan to join us! Also: each family is invited to help us celebrate by donating a new (unwrapped) board game, to be brought to the Christmas party. Contributions will be donated to the 61st Ave UMC Toy Store and our youth room. Don’t forget to invite your friends and to wear your parents’ favorite Christmas sweater (a special reward will be given for the tackiest)!

Our new Youth Director and his family arrived Wednesday!  We’d like to welcome Josh, Abby and 2-week-old Gabriel with some meals to help ease their transition. If you would like to help prepare a meal, please contact Jean Moore to coordinate efforts. There are some special diet requests for the new mommy to be taken into consideration, and we’d like to make sure the family doesn’t get three dinners one night and none the next. The Pumpkin Patch is here!  And Fall Festival in the Pumpkin Patch will be soon!  It is Oct. 24, 2010 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm!

We would love to have your help in the following ways:

• Come from 3:50 to 5:30 to help lead games, face paint, judge costumes and monitor bounce houses!  No prior experience is necessary!
• Get a group together and decorate a trunk to hand out candy!  There will be a prize for the best decorated trunk!  Last year we needed even more trunks!  So buy some candy and join in the  fun!

This past Sunday I announced that Amanda Jordan is asking for as many youth as possible to help out with the Hank Thompson Trek & Treat.  If you want to help here is what we need.  The main volunteer needs for all youth would be helping in the kids’ zone or blowing up balloons for our cancer balloon tribute.  The balloon job starts at 7 and all our shifts last about 2 hours.  For the Kids’ Zone, we really need girls that are good with face painting, nails, hair.  We also need help monitoring the inflatables.  The Kids’ Zone hours start at 9:30 and are two hour shifts until 2:00.  If you would like to volunteer please contact Amanda Jordan at altjordan@yahoo.com or 824-1734.
